
DA Scott M. Perrilloux reports that 32 YO Caitlin Jones, of Mobile, AL, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide committed while the operator was under the influence of alcoholic beverages.
On March 21, 2020, Louisiana State Police were alerted to a two-vehicle crash on I-12 W near Pumpkin Center Rd. On scene investigation revealed a Mazda 3 belonging to Caitlin Jones’ rear ended another traveler in a GMC Sierra. Both vehicles ran off the road. The driver of the Sierra, later identified as Michael Jones, lost control of his vehicle before it came to rest with in the tree line.
State Troopers observed a strong odor of alcohol, swaying, and slurred speech from Caitlin Jones. The crash ultimately claimed the life of Michael Jones.
Caitlin Jones was sentenced to 15 years with the department of corrections. Five years of the sentence is to be served without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.
