The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office held a news conference Wednesday, announcing that two boys at the center of a statewide Amber Alert have been located safe.
Around midday on Wednesday the sheriff’s office identified the children’s biological mother, Shawntel Heck, as a person of interest in connection with the boys’ disappearance. In a bizarre twist, the sheriff’s office confirmed that a good Samaritan picked up Shawntel who was stranded on the side of the road. She asked to be taken to the father’s home. According to TPSO, when the father left the boys in the car and went inside to grab a tool, Shawntel stole the car with the children inside. The boys were located in Santa Rosa County, Florida near Milton where they remain in protective custody.
