A tax proposition for a new sales tax in Tangipahoa Parish is set to go before voters for them to decide after it went through unanimous approval of the school board and then a special school board committee. Officials think a consensus has been built to get the additional funding for the school system passed. School officials say Tangipahoa, on a per capita basis, is the least funded school district in the state. Earlier this week the school board agreed to a 7% raise across the board for all employees if the sales tax passes. The tax proposition will be voted on April 24th.
