On the night of February 1st, the Hammond Fire Department was dispatched to 43225 Creek Circle for a residential structure fire. The first arriving firefighters found a two-story building on fire that had 10 units within it. Two of these units were on fire. Only narrow alleyways separated it from an adjacent building. While making sure that all occupants had evacuated the buildings,
HFD began attacking the fire with Ladder 1 and various hand lines. The adjacent building also had to be protected due to its proximity to the building on fire. HFD responded with numerous trucks. Firefighters worked for two hours before bringing the incident under control without injury or loss of life. They finished around 2:30 am. The Red Cross assisted displaced residents with shelter.
Currently, the incident is under investigation by the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s office and the Hammond Fire Prevention Bureau. The scene will be secured for several days while the investigation takes place.
The Hammond Fire Department would like to thank the following agencies that assisted with the incident: Ponchatoula VFD, Hammond Rural FD, Natalbany VFD, Hammond Police Department, Tangipahoa 911, Acadian Ambulance Services, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, American Red Cross and the Office of Emergency Preparedness.
