If you are one of the hundreds of thousands of people in that first priority group to get a COVID-19 vaccine, there are now 210 locations across all 64 parishes in our state, where you could potentially get one. People 70 and older across Louisiana are doing whatever they can to get on those waiting lists. But with the high demand, some people are looking anywhere they can get those critical 2 doses. Some have even wondered if you can take a different manufacturer’s COVID-19 vaccine for your second shot if it means a shorter waiting period. Studies were only focused on the individual vaccines themselves. And nowhere in those studies, did employers at Pfizer or Moderna share the elements or process with one each other. This is not a good idea. When you get your first vaccine, or even when you make your first appointment, you are supposed to get a second appointment to get your follow-up dose. The Louisiana Department of Health weighed in on this as well, saying providers are required to notify vaccine recipients when it is time for them to receive their second dose and vaccine recipients will receive information cards. The department also tracks immunizations through our existing links immunization system, which has follow-up dose tracking and notification capability.
