A group of Hammond residents are taking legal action against the proposed Medline distribution site set to be built near the Hammond airport. Back in October, people living in one Hammond neighborhood raised concerns about the idea of the Medline storage facility being built near their homes. The facility originally was going to be built in St. Tammany, but after hurdles arose there Tangipahoa Parish officials offered to take it. In documents filed in court this week, the residents are claiming the Hammond mayor and city council unlawfully approved the rezoning of the land in front of their homes. The court documents say evidence was submitted to the zoning commission and Tangipahoa Parish Council to show that alternate sites in the Parish are available to Medline, and the alternate sites were already properly zoned under the Comprehensive Master Plan. The residents are asking a judge to declare the ordinance to rezone the land as void, and reinstate the land to its original zoning classification.
