A roundtable discussion was held Monday afternoon to answer community questions and dispel rumors surrounding the coronavirus vaccine. Dr. Jennifer Avegno, the director of the New Orleans Health Department, was one of the local health officials to take part. When it comes to who gets the vaccine and when, Louisiana plans to follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, which puts the state in Phase 1A right now. That means frontline health care workers and nursing home residents are prioritized. The next phase will focus on other essential workers, like people working in education, manufacturing and public safety. People over the age of 65 will be vaccinated next, followed by the general public.
