Former city councilman and Tangipahoa Parish School Board member Walter Daniels is Mayor-elect for the Town of Amite. Appointed earlier this year to serve as interim mayor following the sudden death of Mayor Buddy Bel, Daniels was elected to serve a four-year term with 53 percent of the vote against longtime Police Chief Jerry Trabona and first-time candidate Ricky Ardillo. Trabona finished second in the three-man race with 27 percent of the vote. Ardillo finished with 19 percent. Turnout was just under 70 percent in the race. Trabona’s assistant chief, Len Francois won his bid to become the town’s new Police Chief. Francois received 77 percent of the vote to opponent Pat Murphy’s 23 percent.
