A bill sponsored by State Representative Mark Wright from Covington that would have given lawmakers the ability to reject individual pieces of a governor’s emergency order has been vetoed by Gov. Edwards. GOP lawmakers are arguing that it is inappropriate for Edwards to continue making all the decisions related to the pandemic that broke out earlier this year. Edwards has loosened restrictions recently, but said a bill like Wright’s would put at risk all the gains the state has made. This action was expected and comes after a four-week special session. Lawmakers could try to hold a veto session to overrule the governor’s action but probably lack the votes to overturn the veto.
