Yesterday Sheriff Randy Smith said he was served with a subpoena from DA Warren Montgomery that called for him to produce records concerning the investigation of the death of Nanette Krentel which occurred on July 14, 2017.
The document states the subpoena was necessary due to “material differences in the findings of the Coroner and Sheriff’s Office.” Smith said he spoke with Dr. Preston and he is unaware of any differences between the agencies. Smith said he will comply with the subpoena and provide a complete copy of the investigative file to Mr. Montgomery’s office.

Smith said his office has executed 65 search warrants in connection with the case. They have reviewed 45 hours of surveillance and conducted in excess of 80 interviews. He said the FBI, ATF, United States Postal Inspection Service, the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal, the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, and the Louisiana State Police have all worked to solve the case. Smith said he also retained the services of a retired U.S. Marshal to give investigators a fresh perspective. Finally, he said his investigators have also met with the District Attorney’s Office in order to update Mr. Montgomery’s staff on the status of the investigation.
Smith said they will never stop working to try and solve this case and bring closure to Mrs. Krentel’s family.
