St. Tammany Parish School officials have confirmed a case of coronavirus has been identified at Mandeville Junior High. All employees and students, who were in close contact, have been notified and asked to quarantine for 14 days. They went on to say that cleaning and disinfecting happens at the school daily. The district did not confirm if it was a student or employee who tested positive, but parents received an automated call about the confirmed case.
Officials say since school started there have been approximately 35 confirmed coronavirus cases in the district. This week the district started Phase 3 of its reopening plan, which allows sixth, seventh and eighth grade students to return to the classroom full-time for in-person instruction. High school students will continue to do a hybrid schedule until November. Right now, ninth through 12th grade students are scheduled to return to school five days a week on Monday, Nov. 9. Pre-K through fifth grade have been attending school full-time since early September.
