Tangipahoa Parish prep football kicks off today and Superintendent Melissa Stilley says schools are taking every precaution to offer competitive sports that are safe for players and spectators alike. Stilley said the biggest change spectators will notice is the limited capacity that each stadium must adhere to in order to welcome fans at the games. State requirements limit stadium capacity at 25 percent, and those attendance numbers are determined by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Tickets for prep football games are only available pre-sale through the school. Stilley said the district encourages fans to contact the school office to get details on how to purchase advance tickets. Tickets to TPSS home games will be $8 per person, and families will be allowed to sit together. Social distancing between groups will be required. Face coverings are also required for entry into the stadium and throughout the entirety of the game. Stilley said spectators are allowed to bring their own hand sanitizer to the game, if they choose to do so.
The Tangipahoa Parish School System reserves the right to deny the right of spectators to attend future games if basic guidelines are not followed. Stilley said that includes use of face coverings and the social distancing guidelines. For more information on the fall sports schedule, contact your local high school.
