Last night the Hammond City Council approved a measure urging Mayor Pete Panepinto to remove the city’s police chief, Edwin Bergeron Jr. The council voted 3 to 2 during a meeting held Tuesday. The council also voted unanimously to refer a controversial booking room video to a third-party to investigate. Hammond City Chamber had an overflow crowd that spilled out into the lobby as one by one attendees voiced their opinions on Police Chief Edwin Bergeron’s actions in the 2017 booking room incident, which recently resurfaced in full.
