Fifteen deputies with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division planned to leave at daybreak this morning, headed to the Lake Charles area. The deputies are taking six flat boats, eight 4×4 pickup trucks, chainsaws, generators, air compressors, life jackets, high water boots and other supplies. They will be assisting law enforcement in Southwest Louisiana with search and rescue operations following Hurricane Laura.
Sheriff Randy Smith said officers from around the state and around the nation have come to our aide during storms in the past, and he wanted to return the favor. He said going there to help is simply the right thing to do.
