Team Slidell began “Operation I-10 Underpass Clean-up” at Gause Blvd. yesterday after city officials received feedback and saw first-hand the accumulation of garbage in that area. Keep Slidell Beautiful along with several city crews, with assistance from the Slidell Police Department and St. Tammany Fire Protection District #1, gave the area a thorough deep cleaning. While Keep Slidell Beautiful regularly maintains and picks up trash along Gause Boulevard, yesterday’s efforts focused on cleaning up the garbage left by transients who sleep underneath the I-10 overpass. City crews collected over 70 bags of trash and cleaned and removed offensive graffiti and stickers. After the trash was removed, firemen hosed down the underpass washing out leftover dirt and debris. Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer thanked the citizens who expressed their concerns.
