St. Tammany Parish Government put out a statement regarding what they called issues at the August 4, 2020 Zoning Commission Meeting. They said several events took place which exacerbated what was already expected to be an active meeting. The meeting start time had already been delayed due to the Council Chambers’ use as a voting location. Shortly after arriving at the meeting, the parish employee tasked with directing citizen traffic in out of chambers for cases, received a message that he had been exposed to COVID-19. In the interest of public safety, that individual quickly left the meeting to quarantine until he receives test results.
The agendas for the Zoning Commission meetings are usually published 10 days before the meeting and may be reviewed at this link: www.stpgov.org/zoning-agendas. However, accommodations will be made due to COVID-19. Exterior screens with sound will be erected in both the lobby and outside the building in the parking lot so that all may watch and listen to the meeting until they are called in for their case. Please be sure to dress comfortably for weather conditions and feel free to bring a folding chair for your comfort.
President Cooper says his priority is to ensure that citizens voices and concerns are heard on all matters of public interest to St. Tammany Parish and his goal during this pandemic is to ensure the continued ability of citizens to participate fully in the civic process and have the opportunity to provide input on matters that may impact them.
