Speaking yesterday Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer joined what can only be called a softening of local support around East St Tammany for the proposed casino project that will now go for a vote before the citizens of St Tammany Parish.
The Parish Council approved the citizen vote in a marathon session, after it was passed in Baton Rouge with help from the local legislative delegation.
Just before the Parish Council vote, St Tammany Sheriff Randy Smith came out against the project, while Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal asked that the project be put on hold to allow more time to study any implications involving crime in the area.
The proposed $325 million gaming and resort facility will be voted on by St Tammany residents later this year.
