Chief Edwin Bergeron Jr says the Hammond Police Department is excited about a program they will be launching in April.
Decals on the back of an HPD vehicle this means that the officer has been through Autism Awareness Training which was provided by Infinity Therapeutic Services. In April officers will also be wearing blue badges for Autism Awareness Month and many of the badges will be personalized with someone’s name on it. After April, there will be a ceremony and the badge will be donated to the person who it was worn in honor of.
Chief Bergeron thanks North Cypress Fitness, The Hammond Fraternal Order of Police, SOAR, and Infinity Therapeutic Services for helping the new initiative get going.
