NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson says expect a heavy police presence in the French Quarter over the next few weekends. The increased patrols come after the city announced they were working on a public safety plan ahead of Fat Tuesday. The announcement was made after a video of crowds on Bourbon Street last weekend went viral. Ferguson asked people to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols in place and encouraged people to stay home. According to Ferguson, closing Bourbon Street on Fat Tuesday is an option they might use.
