The Covington Police Department has received numerous complaints over the past few weeks of vehicles being burglarized. With these reported burglaries, items including money and firearms were stolen. Most firearms used in violent crimes are taken from unlocked vehicles.The vehicles that were burglarized were unlocked! Most burglaries are crimes of opportunity. Many citizens don’t even realize their vehicle was burglarized unless something of significance was taken.
The Covington Police Department would like to provide some helpful tips to prevent becoming a victim of burglary: Lock your vehicles; Take all items of value out of your vehicle and bring them inside; Set up motion detection lights in your driveway; Set up an inexpensive camera system; If you see something suspicious going on, say something, and call law enforcement.
