Southeastern Louisiana University President Dr. John Crain says today will mark the start of the “most unusual fall semester in the history of Southeastern”. Crain said despite the challenges the coronavirus has sparked, SLU’s enrollment was trending closely along the same numbers as last fall. Dr. Crain said the university has employed air and surface sanitizers across the campus. He said in some areas they will use a UV light source, which he says some have described as “overkill,” but his message is simple. Southeastern cares about the health and safety of everyone on campus. The university has developed a safety guide (available at http://www.southeastern.edu/about/safe_campus/covid-19/). There is one for students and another for employees.
The university received more than $11 million in CARE Act money. Crain said half of that allocation was directed back to students. The remainder was “more than consumed” in developing resources to keep the university in position to continue its work in the community. Crain said Southeastern offers more dual enrollment classes than any other university in the state, and he continues to work with Tangipahoa Parish School Superintendent Melissa Stilley and her counterparts across the region to ensure that program continues to benefit high school and future college students.
