On Sunday, August 16, shortly before 1:00 am, Troopers from State Police Troop L responded to a fatal crash on I-12 eastbound west of LA 21. The crash claimed the life of 36-year-old Tiffany A. Peterson of Covington. The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that Peterson was eastbound on Interstate 12 in a 2015 Nissan Altima. For reasons still under investigation, Peterson’s vehicle rear-end impacted a 2020 Freightliner 18-wheeler causing the Nissan to underride the 18-wheeler trailer.
Peterson was properly restrained but died from injuries sustained in the crash. She was pronounced deceased on scene by the St Tammany Parish Coroner’s office. Impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash. As a part of the investigation, a blood sample was collected for scientific analysis from Peterson.
