Gov. John Bel Edwards says per 100,000 residents, Louisiana has more coronavirus cases than any other state, meaning we are now ranked number one in the United States per capita for cases of COVID-19. Edwards said we knew we were on this trajectory over the last couple of weeks and would get there if we reported those daily case numbers the way that we were. Edwards says that puts Louisiana ahead of Arizona, New York, and New Jersey, ranked 2-4. He said he hopes the per capita ranking should be an alarm bell for everyone to fully understand just how serious this pandemic is in Louisiana. He added that if there was a bright side, the number of new cases reported yesterday was less than recent days, and fewer people are hospitalized with COVID-19. The governor also said over the past few days, hospitalizations have basically been flat, and that is the first time in a long time that has happened. He hopes that is the start of a trend.
