Bogalusa Mayor Tyrin Z. Truong said he officially vetoed the spending freeze ordinance, meaning city services can temporarily resume until the council votes again.
He said they will meet at City Hall this Monday night at 5:30pm and he encouraged all concerned residents to attend. The mayor said also of importance was that the city council had not informed the public on who they plan to appoint to represent District B. He said the public deserves to know before the vote on Monday night.
Meanwhile the mayor of Bogalusa and the Louisiana legislative auditor are going back and forth over an audit from last year. The auditor claims the city is on the non-compliance list and all state and federal funds to that Washington Parish city are on hold until the audit from 2022 is turned in. The auditor says no state or federal funds that flow through Louisiana can legally be given to Bogalusa, which could lead to problems as many cities rely on that money to operate.
Mayor Truong claims the former mayor’s administration wiped computers, destroyed records, and neglected financial work after October 2022. He also said almost all top financial staff resigned prior to him taking office.
