St Tammany Parish Government issued a statement from Parish President Mike Cooper regarding a firearm that was brought to March 7 Council meeting.
Cooper said the safety and well-being of our citizens is the top priority of St. Tammany Parish Government. Cooper said we will continue to take every step to ensure that our citizens are kept safe as they attend public meetings and voice their concerns. Cooper added that the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office does an outstanding job of protecting our community and elected officials at public meetings. The parish president said all public St. Tammany Parish Government facilities are a weapon-free zone for everyone and that the state and local laws already in place to protect us all will be enforced.
Earlier this month, St. Tammany Councilman David Cougle walked into a parish council meeting carrying a duffle bag with a gun inside it.
