There are already closures this morning, so check your route if you commute from Slidell to New Orleans before you leave home.
The National Weather Service has forecast the potential for dense fog and smoke for much of St. Tammany Parish from 1 – 10 a.m. today. Visibility could be at 1/4 of a mile or less and areas that are impacted by smoke from wildfires could see visibility drop below 100 ft.
Slidell Police posted images from a CDL driver’s dash cam on how fast the superfog moved onto I-10 yesterday morning. Authorities warn that there could be a repeat of that this morning. Please use extreme caution if you travel in affected areas.
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office also says heavy fog and smoke are expected again today from the marsh fires in the east. Once again there could be near zero visibility on I-10 between Irish Bayou and Michoud, which on Tuesday was shut down due to multiple accidents. At least one person died and eight people were injured following a crash on I-10 East at Michoud Blvd. Authorities say that accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. As many as thirteen cars were involved in four crashes in that area.
