Melanie Curtin, sentenced to life in prison for her involvement in a 2021 high-profile rape case involving a former Livingston Parish sheriff’s deputy, is now a free woman.
Curtin bonded out of the Livingston Parish Detention Center Tuesday afternoon after the First Circuit Court of Appeal overturned her conviction.
Livingston Parish judge Brian Abels set a $350,000 bond for Curtin earlier Tuesday and she is required to wear an ankle monitor.
The conviction that put Melanie Curtin in jail for life was thrown out by the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal on Oct. 5 based on errors the appeals court said were made during trial.
The Louisiana Attorney General’s Office responded to the ruling saying they anticipate appealing to the Louisiana Supreme Court.
