LPSO says they are conducting an In Custody Death Investigation.
Around 2:30 am on July 27, deputies with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a convenience store located on Juban Rd. A clerk called LPSO after a bruised and swollen female walked into the store and pleaded for help. The female advised she was being held against her will by the armed male pumping gas. The clerk helped the female hide and deputies arrived. One deputy stayed with the female while another deputy approached the male.
When approached for arrest, the male suspect identified as 33 YO Christian Gremillion, fled on foot tripping and falling on a cement curb at the store.
He was taken into custody.
Medical personnel arrived. LPSO then transported Gremillion to a hospital for treatment.
He would remain in the hospital for 6 days. On 8/3, he was released by the hospital and was transported to the Livingston Parish Detention Center. He was placed in medical segregation.
On 8/4, Gremillion requested medical assistance. He became unconscious. Medical staff performed life-saving measures and a pulse was recovered.
Gremillion was transported to a local hospital but he would pass away the next day.
An autopsy was performed by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office and the preliminary cause of death was blunt force injuries of abdomen.
