
On August 4, 2023, at 9:45 pm, the Hammond Police Department received a call about a shooting in the 500 block of Natchez Street.
Officers arrived on scene at 9:47 pm and found a deceased male victim lying in the roadway who had been shot.
Officers were able to identify the victim as a 16 YO male juvenile.
At approximately 9:55 pm, officers on Natchez Street heard multiple shots coming from south of their location. They found a second crime scene in the 1400 block of Live Oak Street. Simultaneously, victims of the second shooting drove to the original crime scene on Natchez Street at which time officers learned that a 19 YO female had been shot.
The female victim of the second shooting was transported to North Oaks Medical Center where she received treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg and was released.
Through the initial investigation, detectives learned that the victims in the vehicle from the second shooting were related to the victim of the first shooting. It is believed that the initial shooting stemmed from an ongoing disagreement between the first victim and unknown subjects.
This investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released when available.
