St. Tammany Coroner Dr. Charles Preston has reported the drowning death of a 7 YO boy in Slidell Saturday.
The incident appears to have occurred when the child was temporarily left unattended. Parents of the child have been notified.
Preston said these deaths occur all too often and each and every one of them is avoidable. He added that the first rule of water safety for children and their parents or guardians is eyes on the water at all times.
Preston noted that his office participates in the nationwide water safety program, details of which are available by contacting the Coroner’s office at 985/781-1150 or by email at info@stpco.org. Coroner’s office staff is available to provide presentations to civic and other organizations on this important topic as well.
Due to the victim’s age, the Coroner’s office will not be releasing the child’s identity.
