St. Tammany Parish Library is pleased to announce its upcoming event, the Global Accessibility Awareness Day Open House.
The event will take place on May 18, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Madisonville Library.
During the Open House event, attendees can learn about the library’s Touch Accessible Platform for Interactive Technology, or TAPit, learning station. The TAPit Learning station is an assistive, learning center using “intended touch” to serve those with special needs. The device conforms to ADA standards and is constructed to distinguish between a hand placed on the screen for support and intentional tapping of an image using a finger or assistive device.
The TAPit learning station was funded and gifted to the Madisonville Library by the St. Tammany Library Foundation at the end of 2020.
Global Accessibility Awareness Day is an annual event celebrated on the third Thursday of May, which aims to raise awareness about digital accessibility and the importance of creating digital content that can be accessed by everyone, including people with disabilities.
