Louisiana State Treasurer John Schroder is joining the race for governor.
A campaign website for Schroder was updated yesterday to reflect the gubernatorial run and request campaign donations from the public. Schroder is expected to hold an official kickoff event on Thursday, Feb. 9.
Meanwhile Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser announced yesterday that he will not run for governor. Instead, Nungesser said that he will seek re-election to his current job. In a statement to supporters he said that the worst pandemic in our lifetime and a series of devastating storms leaves him with unfinished business to bring tourism back to its peak performance, especially for the near 250,000 families who rely on this industry for their livelihoods and for that reason he has decided to seek re-election to the Office of Lt. Governor.
Currently, there are only two major candidates in the race, including Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry and State Treasurer John Shroder. Louisiana DOTD Secretary Dr. Shawn Wilson is considering entering the race for governor as well.
