On December 17, at approximately 7:20 pm, the Hammond Police Department responded to Channell Drugs, located at 1812 West Thomas Street, in response to a theft.
Upon arrival, HPD officers learned that a black male suspect, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing a dark hoodie type jacket, dark colored pants, green tennis shoes, gloved right hand and face covering, entered the business. Witnesses saw the suspect approach a counter where six bottles of promethazine were located, grab all six bottles, and then quickly exit the business.
During a follow-up investigation, HPD detectives learned from employees that the suspect had entered the business approximately two days prior on December 15, picking up a prescription and not wearing a face covering. While the suspect was in the business on December 15, detectives were told by employees that he asked questions about respiratory equipment and respiratory treatment medications. The employees stated that the suspect entered the business on December 17, asking similar questions about respiratory related equipment, just moments prior to removing the six bottles of promethazine from the counter.
