
On December 10 there will be a run-off for the top post in Hammond, while the entire city council won reelection.
According to unofficial returns from Tuesday’s primary, Hammond Mayor Pete Panepinto will face Tracy Washington Wells in a run-off to seek his third term.
Panepinto led a field of four in the primary election, carrying 47 percent or 2,156 votes. Wells had 1,196 votes or 26 percent to finish second. John Pecoraro finished third at 18 percent and Darryl Smith was fourth with 9 percent.
All five of the Hammond City Council members were re-elected to a second term in office. In District 1, Kip Andrews was the only council member who did not have to run for re-election after his opponent was disqualified. In District 2, Carlee White Gonzales won with 76 percent of the vote. In District 3, Devon Wells won with 65 percent of the vote. In District 4, Sam DiVittorio won with 57 percent. And in District 5, Steve Leon won his district with 83 percent.
Early voting for the Dec. 10 primary starts Nov. 26.
