With manpower down and response times growing, yesterday NOPD announced they will bring in the former head of the New York City police department’s massive patrol division to help develop a strategy to revamp operations.
Fausto Pichardo, who until his resignation in October 2020, was Chief of Patrol in the NYPD. He will work for up to six months in New Orleans to implement recommended changes and train a permanent replacement as Chief of Operations for the NOPD.
Murder continues to spike in the city, with the Metro Crime Commission saying homicide is up 136% relative to 2019 and 42% higher than the same time in 2021.
