On July 31, 2022, The Hammond Police Department received a complaint of multiple fraudulent charges at various local businesses from the victim’s various debit and credit cards which had been in the victim’s wallet.
The victim advised HPD that to his knowledge, his wallet had been inside his residence.
At this time, HPD detectives believe an unknown suspect gained entry to the victim’s residence through an open garage door, while the victim was working from home. The same suspect, or an associate of the suspect, went to multiple stores where they were able to purchase prepaid gift cards. The suspect purchased over $2000 of various gift cards before the victim was made aware of the fraud.
