In Baton Rouge parts of I-10 could be shut down to just one lane for a full year, according to the plans for a huge upcoming construction project.
Next year, the state will start a widening project in both directions from Acadian Thruway to the I-10/I-110 split near Government Street.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said it is nearing the end of its planning phase and the prospect of the lane closures has local officials very concerned.
One of the unknowns, and a subject that will be addressed at the Louisiana State Capitol at a coming meeting, is how the coming construction might affect hurricane evacuations.
