Last night at the Livingston Parish School Board meeting, Sheriff Jason Ard addressed members of the School Board with a topic of School Safety for the 2022/2023 school year.
Starting August 9th, 2022, Sheriff Jason Ard intends to start increasing patrols at Livingston Parish Schools. This will be a new program known as the ‘Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office School Safety Detail’. This detail will be staffed by POST Certified LPSO deputies and local police officers. These law enforcement officers will be making exterior patrols by vehicle and walking the perimeter of schools checking gates, fence lines, and doors. This is obviously going to be a huge task. The overall plan is to eventually have a law enforcement officer on every campus, every day, while children are present.
Sheriff Ard has had discussions with Livingston Parish Police Chiefs, local law enforcement partners, school system leaders, Livingston Parish principals and others to review and put the framework into place.
Last night the board agreed to enter into a cooperative endeavor with the LPSO to help fund this safety initiative, which will be in addition to their current LPSO program.
