A fire broke out on the docked Steamboat Natchez Tuesday night after it ignited in the boat’s engine room, according to the New Orleans Fire Department.
The fire was first reported at 8:05 p.m.
Firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the historic Steamboat Natchez, which is currently docked in the Industrial Canal.
Eight fire units consisting of 24 personnel worked through the heavy smoke and extinguished the fire, confining a majority of the burn damage to the boat’s engine room, where New Orleans firefighters said the blaze ignited.
Workers on the boat told firefighters they had been working in the engine room earlier in the day.
The fire was determined to be under control just after 9 p.m.
