
Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer, members of the Slidell City Council, city administration and members of the Slidell Commission on the Arts will join George Dunbar in the dedication of the George Dunbar Gallery at the Slidell Cultural Center at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 21 at 2055 Second Street.
Dunbar is a world-renowned artist who is proud to call Slidell home. He is represented by top galleries in New Orleans and New York and has pieces in the permanent collection of the British Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Ogden Museum, and the Contemporary Art Center.
Dunbar was instrumental in establishing the Mayor’s Slidell Commission on the Arts (which eventually developed into the Department of Cultural & Public Affairs) as well as designing the original Slidell Cultural Center on Erlanger Street.
He has been awarded the BRAVO! Arts Award from the City of Slidell and the Commission on the Arts, the President’s Art Award from St. Tammany Parish, the Community Arts Award from the City Council of New Orleans, and the Silver Circle Award by the Contemporary Art Center.
“George Dunbar: A Retrospective” which features six decades of his works is currently on display in the Slidell Cultural Center.
