Louisiana has topped 1 million total cases of coronavirus.
The news came with yesterday’s Louisiana Department of Health update, which added 29,125 cases.
That puts Louisiana at a total of 1,025,748 cases.
Of course, most of those cases are no longer active, but tens of thousands of new cases have been diagnosed in the last two weeks during the 5th surge. The 5th surge has been the biggest surge of COVID yet, in terms of the number of new cases.
3,981 reinfections were also reported yesterday. 43,899 total cases of reinfection have been reported to the state since the pandemic started. Reinfections are not yet included in case counts.
2,183 people with COVID were hospitalized.
The largest shares of new cases were among those ages 5-17 (23%), ages 18-29 (19%) and ages 30-39 (18%).
Of new cases, 17% came from Region 2 (Baton Rouge), 15% from Region 1 (Greater New Orleans) and 15% from Region 9 (Northshore).
58 additional #COVID deaths were included in yesterday’s report.
