
Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards will discuss the statewide mask mandate, which has been in effect since Aug. 4, at a news conference on Tuesday.
His deputy chief of staff tweeted yesterday about the low number of people currently in Louisiana hospitals with COVID, which marks a continued improvement in the fight to slow the spread.
The news conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Gov. Edwards announced he was reinstating the mask mandate on Aug. 2 when the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations statewide exceeded 2,100 patients, with more than 200 of them requiring ventilators.
The statewide mask mandate is currently set to expire on Wednesday, Oct. 27. It is unclear if he will extend the mandate or let it expire on Wednesday.
Yesterday the LDH reports 878 new #COVID19 cases. 332 individuals were hospitalized. Yesterday’s report includes cases among all age groups and from all regions. T
he area reporting the most cases was Region 1 (New Orleans, 18%). North Louisiana comprises nearly a quarter of state cases: Region 7 (Northwest, 15%) and Region 8 (Northeast, 9%).
LDH also reported 18 new COVID deaths, bringing the state’s total to 14,480.
