The New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Gayle Benson announced Tuesday that the launch of the Gulf Coast Renewal Fund has raised nearly $5 million.
This includes the $1 million donation from Benson on Aug. 30.
The funds will support New Orleans and the surrounding communities in the wake of Hurricane Ida.
Benson and the Saints and Pelicans Gulf Coast Renewal Fund have collaborated with Sen. Cameron Henry and other political leaders seeking direction as to where to direct essential items such as generators, fuel and/or meals to front-line workers.
Meals provided by various local restaurants are being delivered to feed breakfast, lunch and dinner to employees and first responders in those parishes.
