The Covington Fire Department announced with very heavy hearts and deep sadness the passing of Fire Chief, Gary S. Blocker, Jr.
They said Chief Blocker dedicated his life to serving the citizens with unwavering passion, commitment, and bravery. They added that Chief Blocker’s leadership and tireless efforts have had a profound impact on the community for over 27 years and he will be greatly missed.
President Cooper wrote on social media that Gary protected the community with honor and distinction for more than two decades, serving as Chief while Cooper was mayor. He said they were equally shocked and heartbroken and that he would be praying for Gary’s wife, Tammy, his children and the Covington Fire Department.
