On April 4, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash involving a pedestrian on Interstate 55 near LA Hwy 3234 in Tangipahoa Parish.
The crash ultimately claimed the life of 60-year-old William Traylor of Hammond.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling northbound on Interstate 55 in the right lane. For reasons still under investigation, Traylor entered the right lane on Interstate 55 and was struck by the Nissan. Traylor was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Nissan was properly restrained and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained from both individuals for analysis.
Louisiana State Police urges everyone to make responsible decisions that can save lives on our roadways. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, and always ensure that every occupant in a vehicle is properly restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, these simple actions can significantly increase the chances of survival. Pedestrians are reminded that walking along an interstate is strictly prohibited under Louisiana law, except in emergency situations. In areas where pedestrian traffic is allowed, it is essential to stay alert, walk facing oncoming traffic, wear reflective clothing, and avoid distractions.
