The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) needs help identifying and locating two suspects accused of fraudulently obtaining several prepaid cards worth thousands of dollars.
On February 9, the suspects went into the Dollar General store in the 43000 block of Airport Road in Hammond and scammed the cashier out of almost $3,000. The pair used digital payment methods to buy six prepaid gift cards, then had them cashed out before the clerk realized the initial transaction was declined.
Detectives believe the suspects intentionally distracting the clerk through the transaction, a common tactic, contributed to their success.
At the end of the shift, the manager discovered the cards had been fraudulently obtained and contacted TPSO. Through this investigation, TPSO deputies learned the suspects tried to do the same thing at the Dollar General on Pumpkin Center Road, but were unsuccessful.
The duo left both locations in a white SUV.
Sheriff Gerald Sticker encourages anyone with information about who these suspects are and where to find them to contact Det. McFarland with the Organized Retail Crime Unit at 985-345-6150.
