St Tammany Fire District # 1 crews were on the scene yesterday, working to recover what was initially believed to be two vehicles that had gone over the westbound side of the Twinspan.
Fire District #1 assisted the NOPD, NOFD, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, and the Coast Guard during this incident. Their crew boarded a Sheriff’s Office boat, and their rapid divers were deployed to search for victims.
Early on, one victim, the driver of a box truck, was rescued by a nearby fisherman and transported to a hospital by Acadian Ambulance.
Later in the afternoon NOPD reported that only one vehicle, the truck, went over the side and there was no second vehicle in the water.
