The US National Weather Service in New Orleans says snowfall across the area on Tuesday has the potential to be the highest we have seen in decades.
Widespread hard freeze and bitter cold temps will also persist through Thursday. Be Prepared!
Avoid travel if at all possible on Tuesday. Icy conditions could persist into Wednesday and even Thursday. Have enough water and non-perishable food to last thru the week. Wrap all exposed pipes and winterize your outdoor areas. Wear layers and reduce exposure of skin to the air to reduce the risk of hypothermia and frostbite. Place space heaters 3-5 feet from combustible objects like blankets. Do not use stoves or ovens to heat homes. Do not overfill fireplaces/wood-burning stoves. And prep an emergency kit in case you lose power or are stranded on the highway: https://www.weather.gov/safety/winter-before.
