Detectives with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Property Crimes Division have arrested a former employee of the Louisiana State Police after he was caught “skip scanning” items at a Covington-area retailer.
Huey Galmiche (DOB 10/5/1973) of Covington was arrested Wednesday (October 2) and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center for one count each of Misdemeanor Theft and Malfeasance in Office.
Galmiche, who recently retired from Louisiana State Police, committed the crimes while on duty and while dressed in his State Police uniform.
Sheriff Randy Smith said they hold all law enforcement officers to a higher standard and if they break the law they will be arrested.
Colonel Robert Hodges, State Police Superintendent, said upon learning of the ongoing investigation, Sgt. Galmiche was immediately placed on administrative leave with all his law enforcement property recovered by Troop L supervisors. He added that Sgt. Galmiche made the decision to retire after 26 years of service and now must follow the legal process inclusive of his right to be innocent until proven guilty.
