The Covington Police Department shared another update regarding the recent threat against Covington High School.
The juvenile detained by CPD on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, has been fully cleared of involvement.
After conducting searches of the juvenile’s home, electronic devices, and personal items, no evidence was found to indicate that juvenile was responsible for creating or posting the original threat.
Covington PD’s Criminal Investigation Division, with the support of Snapchat and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has thoroughly investigated the source of the threat. It has been confirmed that the original post was made by an individual named “Alex” from Southern California. This post, initially shared publicly, was later screenshotted and circulated within the local “Covington High School” Snapchat group.
Additionally, other threats circulating within the community appear to be part of a larger pattern affecting multiple jurisdictions across the country. These posts are not linked to Covington, Louisiana, and there is no credible threat to Covington High School at this time.
They thanked the St. Tammany Parish School System, The Covington High School Administration, Louisiana Probation & Parole, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations for assisting the Covington Police Department in this matter.
